High alpha-tocopherol blood levels lower the risk of dying from prostate cancer.  

This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled primary prevention trial testing the effect of beta-carotene, retinol and alpha-tocopherol supplements on cancer incidence in 29,133 adult male smokers in Finland .
