Lower Homocysteine Lowers Migraine Frequency and
Severity

Vitamin supplementation lowered homocysteine and reduced
migraine disability.
Migraine may, in part, arise because of disruption in brain
blood vessel health caused by elevated homocysteine.
Homocysteine is a known blood vessel irritant.
This study
was a randomized, double-blind placebo, controlled trial
of 6 months of daily vitamin supplementation. Fifty-two
participants received folic acid 2mg, vitamin B6, 25mg and
vitamin B12 400mcg.
The vitamin supplementation reduced:
• Homocysteine by 39%
• The prevalence of migraine disability from 60% to 30% after 6
months
• Headache frequency and pain severity
Placebo provided no reduction in homocysteine, migraine
disability, headache frequency and pain severity.
This study provides some early evidence that lowering
homocysteine through vitamin supplementation reduces migraine
disability in some people.

Natural Care Solution Pearl
High homocysteine increases the risk of heart attack, stroke,
Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, osteoporosis and some cancers. A high
dose B-vitamin combination, such as Methyl Protect™, and
Juice Plus+ is my first step in
my successful Natural Migraine Program. Both have been shown
to lower homocysteine levels.
