Research shows Omega-3 deficiency causes 96,000 U.S. deaths each year.
A study funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the Association of Schools of Public
Health looked at 12 dietary, lifestyle and metabolic risk factors. The Harvard researchers determined that there
were 72,000-96,000 preventable deaths each year due to omega-3 deficiency. They also found that trans fat intake
contribute to 63,000-97,000 each year.
Tobacco smoking was ranked as the highest risk factor, followed by high blood pressure, obesity, physical
inactivity and high salt intake. Other risk factors below omega-3 risks were high blood glucose, high LDL
cholesterol, low fruits and vegetables intake and alcohol use.

Our diet plays a very important part on our health and longevity.
Omega-3, vegetable and fruit consumption falls short of levels that prevent chronic diseases. U.S. government
agencies appear to be studying omega-3s to establish a Dietary Reference Intake (DRI).
Omega-3s decrease the risk of many conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s.
