Zinc and Vitamin C Improved Children’s
Asthma
Sixty children with
moderately persistent asthma were randomly given alternating
phases of placebos, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C and Zinc
either singly or in combination separated with washout
phases. There was a significant improvement of the Childhood
Asthma Control Test, pulmonary function tests and sputum
inflammation markers with each of the supplements. There was
a significant improvement with the combined use of the three

2 Diabetes Patients
Vascular benefits of statins may be decreased by inhibition of
Coenzyme Q10 synthesis. In a crossover study, 23 statin-treated
type 2 diabetic patients with blood vessel dysfunction were
randomized, double-blind, to oral CoQ10 200mg/day or placebo
for 12 weeks. Compared to placebo, CoQ10 supplementation

Dysfunction
means the blood vessel can’t dilate or open up completely.
Statin drugs do not provide a dramatic decrease in the risk
of dying from a heart attack. Statin induced blood vessel
dysfunction appears to be one reason. In some people statin
drugs decrease the production of cholesterol and CoQ10. A
deficiency of CoQ10 decreases energy production inside the
cells of the body and increases oxidative damage. Both
decreased energy and oxidative damage will keep a blood
vessel from dilating or opening.
